PRESS: Econ Min wants to pump hydrogen via Gazprom's pipelines
MOSCOW, Apr 14 (PRIME) -- The Economic Development Ministry has suggested giving independent hydrogen producers direct access to the pipeline system of gas giant Gazprom to cut their transporation costs, business daily Kommersant reported Wednesday, citing a roadmap draft.
Transportation is the costliest phase of hydrogen production, it is several times pricier than production. Adding hydrogen to the gas pumped through the gas pipelines can cut hydrogen producer ‘s costs dramatically.
The Economic Development Ministry plans to introduce changes to the legislation until December 2022 to permit construction of hydrogen facilities near the trunk pipelines. Russia plans to export 7.9–33.4 million tonnes of hydrogen by 2050, Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin said on Monday.
Gazprom declined to comment.
